Jazz-Funk in Wrocław — dance with music-video energy

Jazz-funk is the dance you know from music videos: strong, rhythmic, full of attitude and clear full-body work. It blends jazz technique with the looseness and accents of hip-hop. At PALMA Studio at ul. Armii Krajowej 14C in Wrocław's Krzyki district we teach it in small women's groups — from a single move to a finished routine — with instruction available in English alongside Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.

Who jazz-funk is for

  • Women who watch choreography videos online and finally want to dance them, not just scroll past them.
  • Complete beginners with no dance background — in small groups the trainer sees each person and matches the pace to the participants' level.
  • Anyone who danced once and wants to come back to movement in a form that never gets boring.
  • Those looking for training with bite: energy, a heavy beat and expression, not counting reps.
  • Women working on their confidence — jazz-funk teaches you to take up space and look straight ahead.

What a class looks like

We start with a proper warm-up: spine, shoulders, hips, wrists and ankles. Jazz-funk is dynamic and works on accents, so a warm body is not a formality — it is the condition for dancing safely.

The second part is technique and the so-called basics — isolations (moving the head, chest and hips independently), footwork, weight transfer, accenting the movement to the music. These are what make choreography look sharp instead of soft.

The heart of the class is choreography. We teach it in phrases: the trainer shows a short fragment, breaks it down onto counts, we repeat it slowly, then at tempo, and only at the end put it all together to music. We usually return to one routine over several sessions, so you do not have to memorise everything the first time.

At the end we dance the whole thing — sometimes in smaller groups, sometimes all together — and cool down with stretching. No filming pressure and no judging: it is still a class, not a casting call.

What jazz-funk gives you

  • Character and expression in movement — jazz-funk teaches you to dance at full volume, not halfway.
  • Confidence that comes from mastering a hard step and carrying it across the whole room.
  • Fitness and stamina: the strong tempo and accent work are a real full-body effort.
  • Body awareness through isolations — over time you start controlling movement you never used to think about.
  • Movement memory and coordination — learning choreography trains the head as much as the legs.
  • Strength in the legs, glutes and deep muscles, built in motion rather than on a machine.
  • Release: loud music and strong movement are brilliant at discharging the tension of a working day.

What to bring to class

  • Comfortable sportswear that does not restrict movement — leggings or loose trousers and a top or T-shirt.
  • A bottle of water.
  • Footwear: jazz-funk is danced in trainers. Light sneakers with a flat, clean sole that lets the foot bend are best.
  • A hair tie and perhaps a small towel — the classes are intense.
  • Nothing else. Mats and equipment are provided at the studio.
