Functional Training for Women — Myths and Facts
Functional training for women — myths and facts. See what it really is, whether it builds bulk and why it's a great choice for your health and figure.
Read moreFunctional Training (Trening funkcjonalny) teaches the body what it truly needs day to day: to lift, bend, carry and reach without a complaining back. At PALMA Studio in Wrocław's Krzyki district we run it in a gentle, women-only format — technique first, not maximum weights — and English speakers train comfortably too. The goal is to be strong and capable in your own life, not to build biceps.

We start with a warm-up that prepares the joints and muscles for work and sets up your posture. The trainer demonstrates the movement patterns the whole session is built on — the squat, the hip hinge, pushing, pulling, work in a plank position. These are movements you perform in life every day, only here consciously, with someone watching your technique.
In the main part we work with body weight and light equipment. The exercises engage whole muscle chains rather than isolating single areas — because that is exactly how the body works when you pick up a child or move furniture. What counts here is not maximum load but quality and control of movement. Every exercise has an easier and a harder version, so the whole group can train together despite different levels.
We finish with stretching and winding down. Throughout the class the trainer corrects your alignment as you go — possible because we work in small groups, not in a hall full of people training unsupervised. If something does not feel right, or an old injury is resurfacing, say so before class: we will choose a safer variant.

See the price listIt is exercise that strengthens the body for natural, everyday movements: lifting, bending, carrying and reaching. Instead of isolating single muscles, it engages whole muscle chains — exactly how the body works outside the studio. Hence the name "functional": useful in real life. We use mainly body weight and light equipment.
At a gym you often train on machines that isolate one muscle and guide the movement for you. Functional training goes the other way: it teaches your body to control movement on its own, across many planes. The second difference is organisational — with us you train in a small group, with a trainer who sees every participant and corrects technique in real time, in English, Polish, Ukrainian or Russian, instead of exercising alone between rows of machines.
It is, and you will not. This is one of the most stubborn myths: building large muscle mass takes years of targeted training and a consistent diet, and the female body simply has different hormonal conditions. Functional training strengthens, firms and sculpts — the result is a capable, shapely body, not a bulky one. We run it in a gentle, women-focused format where technique and safety come first.
It depends on your starting point, your time and whether you train anything else. The general rule: regularly, with a recovery day between harder sessions — the body gets stronger during rest, not during effort. Many women combine functional training with calmer classes such as Pilates, barre or stretching. You will settle on the best plan with the trainer after your first class.
Yes. Functional training can be adapted to any level, because the exercises are built on natural movement patterns, not on lifting heavy weights. We show every element from scratch and offer variants, so you can start with the simplest version and build from there. We work in small groups, so the trainer will correct your technique before a bad habit sets in.
Yes — this is one of the few classes with us that you attend in trainers. Shoes give stable support for squats, lunges and loaded work. Comfortable training shoes with a flat, stable sole are all you need.
